Recreation Program

Welcome to the HSC Recreation Program

The Haddonfield Town Recreation Soccer Program or "Rec" is a fun and age-appropriate program to introduce your child to soccer. Soccer is a terrific sport to help your child develop skills like sportsmanship, team play, interpersonal communication, and so much more, while engaging in outdoor exercise. Games are played, but the primary focus is ensuring players have a positive experience, not competition. HSC offers opportunities for competition through the Travel Program.

Rec soccer is an eight (8) week season that takes place during the Spring and Fall. The Little Dawgs, Squirts, Kindergarten/1st Grade, 2nd/3rd Grade, and 4th/5th Grade programs are described below to guide your decision as which best suits your player.

Spring 2024 Rec Registration is Closed.

Registration is Closed. for Spring Town Recreation (Rec)! The season will begin the week of March 10th. Final game day will be Saturday, May 10th. Visit the Rec website for information about the programs offered, and the Fall season.

Registration closed on February 18th. Please don't wait to register! It enables us to roster teams for the older programs or secure a preferred time slot for Little Dawgs. If you still miss the window, a late fee is incurred and there's no guaranteed placement that a request you make for your player can be met.

Volunteer Opportunities: As part of the registration process, you will be asked if you are interested in coaching. This is a rewarding opportunity and a great way to get involved. There are also volunteer opportunities available for 1-2 of you to join the Rec-ing Crew. This will require a few hours of a time commitment leading up to, and throughout, the season. Examples of non-coaching volunteer activities may include field lining, equipment distribution, fundraising, and communications. Please contact me if you are interested to volunteer.

For additional information or to share ideas and feedback, contact recreation@haddonfieldsoccer.org or 860.680.8828.

Thank you for your continued support and looking forward to the Fall!

Program Description Practice and Games Age Guidance
Little Dawgs Little Dawgs introduces soccer to the youngest players - focused on ages 3 - 4 years old. Players participate in a clinic-style session once a week. The clinic is coached by a hired trainer and staff who engage players in basic soccer fundamentals. Sessions are on Friday evenings from 4 - 5pm, or Saturday mornings from 9 - 10am or 10 - 11am. Depending on registration, an additional session will be added on Friday evening to accommodate additional players. As part of the registration process, you are asked to rank your preferred time slot, and we will do our best to accommodate your request. Spring: Players must be 3 years old by March 1 and should not be 5 years old before June 1. Fall: Players must be 3 years old by September 1 and should not be 5 years old by December 1.
Squirts Squirts is a continued introduction to soccer for players ages 4 - 6 years old (through Kindergarten). Teams are co-ed and skills and ability are mixed. Teams are developed based on school, parent requests, and the need for an even number of teams with an equal number of players per team. Teams are coached by parent volunteers. Teams scrimmage each other, but there are no standings or scores tracked. Sessions are one (1) hour long beginning 5:30pm on Thursdays and 9am on Saturdays. The first half of the session is dedicated practice time for the team, and the second half of the session is an opportunity to scrimmage another team. Spring: Players must be 4 years old by March 1 and should not be 7 years old before June 1. Fall: Players must be 4 years old by September 1 and should not be 7 years old by December 1. Designed for 5-6 years old; Kindergarteners can choose to play Squirts or K/1 depending on comfort level or interest.
K / 1 Boys and Girls (Kindergarten / 1st Grade) K/1 continues the soccer journey for your player as they continue to develop an interest in the sport. Beginning with this level, the teams are no longer co-ed, the field size is increased, and games are 50 minutes and include a goalkeeper. Skill levels, experience and interest will vary. Teams are developed based on gender, school, parent requests, and the need for an even number of teams with an equal number of players per team. Teams are coached by parent volunteers. Teams scrimmage each other, but there are no standings or scores tracked The K/1 program includes one (1) hour-long weekday practice session, and a 50-minute weekend game. The K/1 Boys program practices on Tuesdays at 5:30pm, and the K/1 Girls program practices on Wednesdays at 5:30pm. 7v7 games take place on Saturday mornings between 9am and 11am. The game time and location are determined at the beginning of the season. Spring: Players must be 5 years old by March 1 and should not be 8 years old before June 1. The program structure is the same as the K/1 program. teams are no longer co-ed, the field size is increased, and games are 50 minutes and include a goalkeeper. Skill levels, experience and interest will vary. Teams are developed based on gender, school, parent requests, and the need for an even number of teams with an equal number of players per team. 4 - 5 Co-Ed (4th and 5th Grade) Rec soccer offers an option at the 4th and 5th grade level. This is a program for players that enjoy the game and are not interested to compete at the travel level. We closely monitor enrollment in this program each season, and will make adjustments as needed, with the opportunity for parent input. The program is typically structured as a clinic due to player and team availability. The 4/5 program includes one hour-long practice session on Mondays at 5:30pm, and one weekend session on Saturday morning. Anticipate a clinic-style session with the potential for small-sided games depending on the number of players. Players should be in 4th or 5th grade at the start of the Spring or Fall season.
